NIGERIAN DESSERT RECIPES
NIGERIAN DESSERT RECIPES ARE NOT EATEN BY AN AVERAGE NIGERIAN!
To be sincere, Nigerians are not noted for eating dessert recipes! The few who will indulge in such infamous eating venture are nicknamed 'Oyibo! (White man) An average Nigerian look at desert recipes with disdain! There is no two ways about it! The highest an average Nigerian will go for is to eat ice cream but not necessarily after meal!
DEFINITION OF DESSERT RECIPES
According to the dictionary, dessert is defined as "The last course of a lunch or dinner, consisting of a serving of a sweet food, such as fruits, ice cream or pastry"
By this definition, I can vividly tell you that the last thing an average 'Nija' man or woman will do after swallowing akpu, Eba garri or pounded yam is to ask for fruits, sweet food or ice cream to top it up!
As far as an average Nigerian is concerned, fruits like bananas, oranges, mangoes, oranges or pineapples are generally eaten when he or she is hungry but definitely not after having overloaded himself with yam, rice, rice and beans or eba!
DESSERTS, SNACKS, APPETIZERS:
In reality, apart from ice cream, most of the sweets an average Nigerian eat can either be regarded as snacks or appetizers! We have puff puff, Chin chin, Cookies; Dodo (fried ripped plantain chips), fish cakes, cakes and buns.
Some people may regard them as desserts but they are more or less snacks. In fact an average Nigerian regards the above mentioned as eatables to 'Wazz mout!' This literally means something eaten to initiate mouth movement and temporarily to quench hunger.
