NIGERIAN PEPPER SOUP
NIGERIAN PEPPER SOUP IS NOT ONLY DELICIOUS AND MOUTH-WATERING BUT CAN EQUALLY SPICE UP YOUR LOVE LIFE!
Nigerian pepper soup is unique and the envy of Nigerian neighboring countries like Cameroon,Ghana, Gabon and Ivory Coast to mention a few. If you have not eaten Nigerian pepper soup then you won't know that there is literally heaven on earth! My three favourite soups are pepper soup, Edika-ekong and Egusi soup.Nigerian pepper soup can equally be as aphrodisiac as Edika-ekong!
I can never forget my first date. Our 'Rendezvous' as the French
people say- meeting place was in one of the famous 'Nne Na' restaurants/beer parlour in Port Harcourt now in Rivers State. How I wish I could turn the clock back! The restaurant/beer parlour was not only unique but the best Beer Parlour and restaurant in the whole of Port Harcourt township!
My girl friend and I ate more than three plates each! No one can ever imagine how I felt on that first date and in the best posh restaurant/beer parlour. The mood was ecstatic, my girl was beautiful, cherubic, and pepper soup, 'Wa..ha.la!' I was literally catapulted to CLOUD NINE! Memories are made of these! Have you had similar experiences? please, be free to tell or share it with me and my readers.
WHAT MAKES NIGERIAN PEPPER SOUP UNIQUE
As a cook, I was under oath not to reveal the secret ingredients and recipes of Nigerian pepper soup! However, I'm compelled to narrate a few of the recipes in this article.
THE MAKING OF NIGERIAN PEPPER SOUP
I was almost forced to learn how to cook Nigerian pepper soup by force. When I found that I was spending much money on eating pepper soup in various restaurants and beer parlours, I decided to acquire the knowledge and skills. It saved me a lot of money then but I still enjoy eating pepper soups cooked in hotels and restaurants. I discovered to my delight that pepper soups served in Beer parlours taste better than those offered in the so-called 5 star hotels in Nigeria.
The main ingredients start with several pieces of lamb or goat meat, several pieces of goat or lamb liver and heart; 'Chaki' or stripes. Large quantity of fluted pumpkin leaves, followed by spices such as (Utasi and Usiza)(Ibo names) and a few other secret spices and seasonings. A large quantity of pepper and salt to taste! Once all these are cooked, they constitute Nigerian unique pepper soup and must be served hot! That's the beauty!
