EASY HEALTHY EATING MEALS ARE NOT ONLY POPULAR BUT THEY CAN BE FOUND IN ANY COUNTRY OF THE WORLD INCLUDING THE THIRD WORLD!
People who live in the civilized world may think that Easy healthy eating meals are those that are bought or sold at various "Take Away" restaurants. The word 'Easy' may be misunderstood.It is believable that those who eat such 'Take Away' meals are always very lazy.However,they always pay very dearly! How do they pay dearly you may ask?
They pay dearly because those meals are not only heavily processed but coated with excessive sodium. In addition, many of such foods are never fresh but frozen for many months and years! These foods are the main causes of Overweight or Obesity! In food terminology, they are classified as 'Junk Foods!
An average Nigerian in the village or rural areas don't care and don't bother about overweight or obesity. Mother Nature is always there to help them. He has many choices to make. In this rainy season,for example, he can do with roast or cooked maize and baptize it with native pear (Ube) or coconut and that can carry him from morning to night when he can comfortably eat akpu, eba or pounded yam with any kind of soup.
Some of the easiest healthy eating meals are fruits and vegetables in an any language or dialect. It will take only a few minutes to assemble fresh tomatoes, fresh cucumber, lettuce, onion rings cut into any shapes with or without one boiled egg and serve as salad. Salad is equally one of the easiest healthy eating diets in every country of the world! It takes only a few minutes too to eat.
It is a pity many Nigerians would do with Tuwo, eba, akpu, rice, yam, to mention a few in the morning, afternoon or at any given
moment. Even those affluent Nigerians in the cities do the same thing. They rather buy rice and beans with pormo and frozen fried fish at the nearest "Mama Put" joint. Or go for Amala, ewedu, pounded yam and egusi soup.
You will be surprised that after eating all these only a few will eat any fruit. Yet, there are so many fresh and dried fruits in Nigeria. As for vegetables, they will tell you that they had vegetables in the soup they ate with eba garri or akpu.
The good thing is that our people are blessed, easy or hard healthy meals, they don't care and majority of them are not overweight and will never be obese unlike the people in the Western or civilized world! Nigerian Sunshine is equally a great blessing second to none!
WHAT REALLY CONSTITUTE HEALTHY EATING AND EASY HEALTHY EATING MEALS ONE MAY ASK?
Healthy eating really means eating such food, dish, meal, or diet that have sufficient nutrients which will give you good health, fitness and help you to achieve long life. It is the type of food that will not make you to be overweight or obese! It is such meals that are bought fresh and cooked by you or for you for the wellness of your family. Such foods or diets do not include biscuits, cream cakes or sugary doughnuts that are harmful to the health!
These are diets or meals such as unprocessed foods, wholegrain bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, protein rich foods such as fishes, beans, moi moi, eggs and meat as well as poultry.
Starchy foods such as cereals, bread, potatoes, maize or corn; are important part of healthy diet. They are a good source of energy and the main source of a range of nutrients in our diets. But care must be taken, it is advisable that starchy food or diet should constitute at least one-third of every thing we eat.
When we talk about healthy diets, "Balance" should be the key to getting it right. This generally means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight".
Easy healthy eating diets must include the followings: (1) Fruit and vegetables. (2) Starchy foods such as rice, pasta, bread,and potatoes.(3) Meat, fish, eggs and beans (4) Foods containing fat and sugar and (5) Dairy foods including milk etc.
Meat, is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc and B vitamins. It is also one of the main sources of vitamin B12. Above,lean meat and poultry are the best.Fish is another source of protein, and oily fish contains fatty acids and omega-3. All these are easily affordable and constitute easy healthy eating meals or diets.
