I never realised the health benefits and the importance of drinking water until I started researching for this article. I never knew that drinking water is not only a life-saver but what my Igbo people in their dialect call "Ogbu nnu oria! "That simply means a kind of medicine that cures all manners of sicknesses and illness!

You will be amazed of the curative health benefits of drinking water. Do you know that drinking water can stop headaches and dizziness? One may ask, is water a kind of medicine? Yes,water is definitely a type of medicine that kills both known and unknown diseases.

DEHYDRATION:

Surprisingly, some people don't even know the meaning of this word. The simple definition is knowing the signs and symptoms. A person who refuses to drink water or refuses to drink sufficient water a day is bound to be dehydrated! There are many people like this in the third world countries including Nigeria.

I have met numerous dehydrated people in Nigeria. They are everywhere! It is sad! It is unfortunate that Nigeria being the so called 5th oil rich countries of the world can not give water and electricity to its people! It is a sad episode!

When I was a child in the village, I used to travel 5 miles away to fetch water. Yes, 5 miles of hectic walking that takes 3 human hours. Today, people are still doing the same trip in my village. But thanks to God, one or two people have dug a borehole and the villagers have to pay for any gallon or litre of water they require. At least that saves them from the 3 hours of trekking to the nearest seaside.

Visible and notable signs and symptoms of Dehydration are as follows: Dizziness, Weakness, Muscle cramps; Dry mouth and tongue with thick saliva, Sleepy, Irritability; Headaches, flushed face and Dry warm skin.

WATER IS THE MOST ESSENTIAL ELEMENT, NEXT TO AIR,FOR OUR SURVIVAL YET MOST PEOPLE TAKE DRINKING WATER FOR GRANTED.

If you are one of those who take drinking water for granted, I must frankly tell you that you are doing yourself more harm than good. Drinking sufficient quantity of water everyday is life, is pleasure, it is equally a way of survival! Even if you are in the 3rd world countries like Nigeria try your best to drink at least 8-10 cups or glasses of water everyday.
