MEDICINAL AND NUTRITIONAL VALUES:

Brussels sprouts are among cruciferous vegetables and all cruciferous vegetables provide integrated nourishment across a wide variety of nutrition. For healthy eating, you can trust the healthy eating advantages from these types of vegetables.

Brussels sprouts has the advantage of cholesterol- lowering benefits especially if steam cooked for a few minutes.Brussels sprouts are now known to top the list of commonly eaten cruciferous vegetables."Their total glucosinolate content has been shown to be grater than the amount found in mustard greens, turnip greens, cabbage; kale, cauliflower and broccoli."

" In short all cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolates and have great health benefits for this reason.

Glucosinolates are important phytonutrients for our health because they are the chemical starting points for a variety of cancer-protective substances".

Brussels sprouts are so beneficial to our lives. The cancer protection we get from Brussels sprouts is largely related to four specific glucsinolates found in this cruciferous vegetable: glucoraphanin, glucobrassicin, sinigrin, and gluconasturtiian" Researchers have found that Brussels sprouts offer these cancer preventive components in special combination".For all these benefits, tell me why you wouldn't love to eat this vegetable?

HEALTH BENEFITS:

The researchers found, I quote,"This connection between Brussels sprouts and cancer prevention should not be surprising since Brussels sprouts provide special nutrient support for three body systems that are closely connected with cancer development as well as cancer prevention.

These three system are (1) the body's detox system, (2) its antioxidant system, and (3) its inflammatory/anti-inflammatory system. Chronic imbalances in any of these three systems can increase risk of cancer, and when imbalances in all the three occur simultaneously, the risk of cancer increases significantly".

It is really wonderful to note that the types of cancer eating of Brussels sprouts can prevent are Breast cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer; lung cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer! Say it loud I love Brussels sprouts!

NUTRITIONAL VALUES OF BRUSSELS SPROUTS:

Brussels sprouts are rich in many valuable nutrients such as carbohydrates, sugar, soluble and insoluble fibre; sodium, minerals; fatty acids, and amino acids. Brussels sprouts are the best source of Vitamin C and Vitamin K.

They are equally, the most excellent source of numerous nutrients including folate, Vitamin A, manganese, dietary fibre, potassium, Vitamin B6; and thiamin (vitamin B1) and a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids, iron, phosphorus; protein, magnesium, riboflavin (vitaminB2); Vitamin E, copper, and calcium".

"In addition to these nutrients, Brussels sprouts contain numerous disease-fighting phytochemicals including sulforaphane, indoles, glucosinolates, isothiocynates; coumaarins, dithiolthiones and phenois"

COOKING, AND STEAMING TO ENJOY ALL THE NUTRIENTS AS WELL AS AVOID THE SMELL AND POSSIBLE BITTER TASTE:

No one can afford hating or loathing this special vegetablewhich is a panacea of numerous diseases. In short it kills and prevents all deadly diseases! Brussels sprouts are rich in sulfur-containing nutrients. Sulfur is connected with both the smell and taste of Brussels sprouts, and too much sulfur aroma is often associated with overcooking of this vegetable.

The worst thing you can do to Brussels sprouts is to overcook them! If you over cook them, not only that they lose their nutritional values and taste but will begin to emit the unpleasant sulfur smell associated with overcooked cruciferous vegetables.

Brussels sprouts can be eaten raw but it is best to steam cook them for at least 5 minutes. But before you steam or cook them, it is better to trim them and leave them for a few minutes before steaming.

Another way of making them to cook easily is to cut them into 2 or 4 and steam or cook for 5 or 10 minutes for healthy eating diet. By this way, you can avoid the smell and taste but enjoy a rich medicinal and nutritional vegetable second to none!

Brussels sprouts also prevent Alzheimer's disease or delay it for a good number of years. How can anyone hate to eat this mother of all healthy eating vegetables? You can eat Brussels sprouts with honey, gravy and in combination of or with other vegetables such as ugu leaves, carrots, mushroom, broccoli,Brussels sprout leaves, potatoes, green bananas, green and ripped plantains, rice etc.

It is not really a vegetable eaten only on Christmas day. For healthy eating, it must be eaten all year round!
